Google+ going, going, gone

by Jann Martin

We’ve been hearing lately that Google+ is shutting down. “When John Lewis heard that Google+ was shutting down after the discovery of a security bug that left private profile data exposed, it felt like a crushing blow — even though he could see it coming.” CNBC report

In The Guardian “This March, as Facebook was coming under global scrutiny over the harvesting of personal data for Cambridge Analytica, Google discovered a skeleton in its own closet: a bug in the API for Google+ had been allowing third-party app developers to access the data not just of users who had granted permission, but of their friends.”

Then in The Verge “Google says Google+ currently has “low usage and engagement” and that 90 percent of Google+ user sessions last less than five seconds. Still, the company plans to keep the service alive for enterprise customers who use it to facilitate conversation among co-workers.”

Google+ has a small group of followers, but many are loyal and will miss the interactions and following that they have built.

If you are one of those who will miss Google+, or even if you’ve never used it, or somewhere in between, consider making Authors Community your home on the net.

  1. I have two accounts on G+ but I only share (other bloggers) and post new blog posts on there. I don’t engage there anymore. I’ve been unenthused about it for over a year now. Tons of spammy accounts. I won’t be sorry to see it go.
